Early Learners

Our activities vary on a daily basis and can include den making, messy play, bug hunting, story telling and lots of opportunities to explore and learn.  All our activities are set up and planned to provide high quality learning through play, with a particular focus on literacy, numeracy, stem and art activities and health and wellbeing, in line with the requirements of the Curriculum for Excellence. We welcome pre-arranged ‘show and tell’ of anything the children would like to share.

Once a week kids yoga is led by a local yoga teacher and music lessons are conducted by local musicians.  We aim to get outside every day, whether in the nursery garden, park, local community orchard or other local walks meaning the children get plenty of fresh air and exercise, whilst getting to make the most of the natural resources available to us within the village.

All our meals are cooked daily by our staff on site and use locally reared meat and our garden produce when we have it. The children take part in meal planning, serving lunch and can request changes if they don’t like that day’s offering. We encourage independence by allowing them to get their own cutlery which also helps in the transition between us and primary school. We offer morning snack, lunch with pudding and afternoon snack.

What to bring to each session

  • A backpack containing a change of clothes
  • Indoor shoes
  • Wellies, weather dependant
  • Nappies and wipes where applicable
  • Coat, suitable for the weather
  • Hat, suitable for the weather
  • Suncream (weather dependent)

In summer, please ensure your child(ren) has sunscreen applied prior to coming as we like to be outside whenever the Scottish weather allows!

To prevent clothes getting mixed up, please clearly name all of your children’s belongings, especially shoes (indoor and outdoor) coats, gloves and hats.

Within our setting we value each child as a unique, creative, independent learner. We are always approachable and seek to nurture all children in our care through outdoor experiences, responsive planning and deep knowledge of each child as a learner.

We aim to provide regular access to quality outdoor learning experiences in a safe environment. We support children to risk assess their own play, help develop their independence and promote early leadership skills. It is important to us that the setting feels like home and provide an extended family environment. We respect children as active learners with staff to support the implementation of this in the daily life of the setting. our aim is to engage with children in high quality learning to maximise success for all.
